We’d like to celebrate and share the success of one of our Junior Golfers – a wonderful boy, Shawn Sehra who is the student of Silver Tee’s CPGA Pro Joye McAvoy.
We’re so proud of his incredible accomplishments!
Here’s a little bit about Shawn.
Shawn, now ten years old, asked for his first set of clubs when he was seven years old. He was inspired to play golf after watching Tiger Woods on the Golf Channel.
He had his first group lesson at Roseland Golf and Curling Club. Having no one at home to teach him how to play golf, he moved on in search of different golf coaches, including Randy McQueen of Roseland and Jeremy Kroh of Kingsville Golf and Country Club further enhanced his love of golf.
Shawn’s game tremendously improved when he got in touch with Joye McAvoy Sinn in the winter of 2012. This summer his game has shown an improvement. He is currently taking lessons with Joye at Silver Tee and is working on many different aspects of his game.
Shawn has won many different tournaments this summer. He played in eight tournaments with the U.S. Kids Southeast Michigan Tour. He won all of tournaments and was awarded the Player of the Year Award. He went on to play the U.S. Kids World Championships at Pinehurst Resort, NC and was ranked in the top 50 in the world.
Shawn also won the mid season CJGA trophy shooting 74 on the first day 71 on the second. He also won the Optimist Tour at Roseland and Blenheim Golf Course, and he just won the Canadian Nationals Optimist 3 Day Championship at Fanshawe Golf and Country Club in London by 27 strokes shooting 77, 79 and 77.
Despite being only 10 years old, Shawn is currently playing in the Southland Insurance Junior Tour in the boys 11-12 division, and winning every tournament so far. He shot a record low 69, 2 under par at Seven Lakes Championship Golf and Estates, 74 at Kingsville, 76 at Erie Shores Golf and Country Club and 76 at Sutton Creek Golf Club.
The staff and Golf Professionals at Silver Tee Golf Centre would like to wish Shawn continued success. We are so very proud to play a small part in his incredible accomplishments.
